Sao Miguel Island Tour

Arrive at the Nordela airport and private transfer.

Walking tour of Ponta Delgada, city centre and the local market. Follow to the amazing natural reserve of Lagoa do Fogo, with its astonishing views from the top of the crater’s border. Continue to Caldeira Velha, a warm iron rich waterfall, where one can have a dip to experience its warm waters. Return to hotel.

Day of experiences, starting with a visit to the Coal cave, located on the western part of Ponta Delgada. Continue to the pineapple plantations and learn all about this exotic fruit. In the afternoon get ready for a whale and dolphin watching experience. Although nature offers no guarantees, the whales and dolphins are regularly seen, along with turtles, seabirds, and other marine life.

Depart to Caldeiras da Lagoa, a place where the famous “cozido” is cooked by the underground vapours released by the volcano. Try this marvellous meal at lunch. Afterwards visit the village of Furnas, with its fumaroles and mineral springs that contain water with different tastes. Visit Terra Nostra botanical garden, with its extraordinary collection of native plants. Experience a bath in an iron-rich hot water swimming pool. Short break for a cup of tea at the tea plantations.

Experience the Jeep safari in the Island, drive to Sete Cidades, by road tracks which are used only by local farmers. After this adventurous and fun ride, lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we emerge in a “back to the past” activity in a farm. Learn how to bake fresh bread and biscuits, milk a cow, plough the land, and participate in many other traditional activities.

Enjoy the experience of stand-up paddle or kayak in the lake’s calm waters of Sete Cidades, as well as a bike ride in the magic surrounding trails. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner in local restaurant.
